It only happens a little more than once in a decade but on Monday, May 9, you'll be able to look into a telescope and see Mercury as it pass between the Earth and the Sun.

The rare astronomical event is known as the planetary transit. Mercury zooms around the sun often but Earth, the Sun and Mercury rarely align. Mercury will look like a tiny black dot in front of the sun.

But don't try to look directly at the sun without special eye protection that's made specifically for viewing the sun.
