MUSCATINE, Iowa-- At this Hy-Vee store at 2400 Second Avenue in Muscatine, you don't need super powers to be considered a hero.

There now stands a parking spot that is permanently reserved for hometown heroes, firefighters,  police officers, and men and women who served in the armed forces.

"It's such an easy thing that we could do to say thank you," says Hy-Vee manager Emily Bockelman.

It's a little gesture that goes a long way.

But after standing in the parking lot of the grocery store for an hour and a half, the super hero spot stayed vacant.

After talking with multiple veterans, it's clear the spot isn't empty because the thought isn't fully appreciated by the veteran grocery shoppers. It's because not everyone's definition of a hero is the same.

"The majority of us, we did it because we wanted to," explains Kenneth McDaniel who served the in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958.

"You don't think of it as being a hero, it's your duty," says McDaniel.

But while people are left full of gratitude for these servicemen and women, the parking lot is left empty. And they wouldn't have it any other way.
