MUSCATINE, Iowa — It was an entrance to set the stage for a great night on the dance floor. Special needs students from Muscatine High School arrived in a limo an hour early to the prom venue. Nineteen students went as a group to pictures, dinner, and the dance.

Laura Koch is a special needs teacher at Muscatine High School. She planned the pre-prom festivities for the students. The students have been eagerly awaiting the prom.

"We have been practicing our dance moves for about a month," said Koch. "We practice everyday every lunch hour for about 20 minutes. They were very excited Friday at school."

It was the first time riding in a limo for all of the students. A parent of one of the students arranged for the limo and other parents and community members chipped in from there. The driver of the limo offered a discount of two hours for the price of one.

About half the students will head home after the hour-early prom because sensitivity to the lights, noise and crowds at the dance. The other half will stay for the rest of prom.
