ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – Police want you to avoid the area of 7th Avenue between 30th and 38th streets because they’re doing emergency response training there Tuesday evening, April 26, 2016.
The training exercise will close that stretch of 7th Avenue from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Motorists should use either 5th Avenue or 14th Avenue instead.
Both 30th Street and 38th Street will remain open for traffic traveling north and south.
The training exercise will involve Augustana College Public Safety & Police, as well as police and fire departments from the city of Rock Island and other neighboring communities.
“As a result, this will lead to the staging of multiple pieces of public safety apparatus on 7th Avenue,” said a statement from Rock Island Fire Chief Jeff Yerkey.
They are training to work together and to test the capabilities of each agency during an emergency incident, Yerkey said.
