The incident happened in the southbound lanes of I-41/State Hwy. 175 around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016, according to officials.

Sheriff's deputies found a 26-year-old woman with a gunshot wound according to WITI. She had no pulse and was not breathing.

Deputies performed CPR until the Milwaukee Fire Department arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"People were panicking and you could tell people were generally trying to help," said Kourtney Blevins. "I know there’s some little boys down there which they put in a police car. It was two little boys -- it looked like some kids were involved unfortunately."

This is a developing story.
