DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A major bank has left its iconic Davenport building after nearly 90 years to become the anchor for a redeveloped building downtown.

Wells Fargo moved to a building two blocks away from its decades-long home over the weekend in late-April 2016, according to a report by the Quad-City Times. The bank reopened at its new location Monday morning, April 25.

Carrie O'Neill, Wells Fargo's Quad-Cities market president and regional private banking manager, says that it was important for the bank to stay downtown, but that it no longer needed the 70,000 square feet it had in the former building.

The former M.L. Parker Department Store building has 23,500 square feet for its 48-member staff.

The move comes one year after the bank announced plans to relocate to the building, which was redeveloped by Restoration St. Louis.
