ROCK ISLAND, Illinois-- A sharing program for libraries across the Quad City Area is ending May 17.
Illinois libraries are switching over to a system called the Prairiecat Catalog, that will give people access to more than 5 million items at 135 library locations in the state. But that also means Iowa library users will be locked out of the Illinois' system.
Although the people in Davenport can still check out items from libraries in Illinois, it won't be as easy under the new catalog.
"If they want to check materials out and you live in Davenport and you want to check out in Moline or Rock Island, you'll need to have a library card here in Davenport. You'll also need to go to that other library and ask to be added to their database," says Davenport Public Library Director, Amy Groskopf.
Libraries from both sides of the river say they will continue to update people about the different changes going on this summer to make the transition as smooth as possible.
As of now both Iowa and Illinois libraries use the RiverShare Catalog.
