Driver pulled over for littering violation faces drug charges

A driver who was stopped in rural Elizabeth, Illinois for a littering violation ended up getting arrested on drug-related offenses, authorities say.

A driver who was stopped in rural Elizabeth, Illinois for a littering violation ended up getting arrested on drug-related offenses, authorities say.

It was around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016 when a deputy with the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department pulled the vehicle over on U.S. Route 20 East, near Galena Oaks, according to a statement from the department.

“Upon investigation, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Canine conducted a free air sniff which resulted in a positive alert,” read the statement.

Officers then searched the vehicle. The driver, 44-year-old Danielle L. Cooks, from Dubuque, Iowa, was arrested for unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Crooks was taken to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
