NEVADA, Iowa (AP) — A man accused of killing a woman at a Coralville mall told police he “didn’t feel anything” after shooting the woman in the back.

The Story County jury on Wednesday watched a recorded interview between 23-year-old Alexander Kozak and police following his June 12 arrest, the Iowa City Press-Citizen reports.

Kozak is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Andrea Farrington.

In the video, Kozak told police he understood his actions and even “thought about it” before carrying out the shooting.

Prosecutors say Farrington was shot three times while working in the Coral Ridge Mall. Police say Kozak told officers he “snapped” after getting a text from Farrington saying she was breaking off their relationship.

The trial was moved to Story County because of media attention.
