URBANDALE, Iowa (AP) — Officials say about 60 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled during an Urbandale crash is expected to reach a central Iowa creek and may even flow into the Raccoon River.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say Wednesday that an accident involving a car and a semi-truck caused a leak in the truck’s fuel tank.

Although the Urbandale Fire Department contained most of the spill, an unknown amount of fuel flowed into a storm sewer. Booms and absorbent pads below the storm sewer collected most of the fuel but some managed to escape into a creek tributary.

The fuel is expected to reach Walnut Creek and may even reach the Raccoon River.

DNR officials are monitoring the cleanup efforts.
