MOLINE, Illinois – WQAD News 8 received two prestigious Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence in journalism.

“Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of electronic journalism,” according to the Radio Television Digital News Association which bestows the Murrow Awards.

WQAD News 8 received regional awards for ‘Use of Video’ for a story by photographers Scott Weas and Andy McKay on the unique egg-throwing competition known as Trebuchet (watch it by clicking here); and for sports-related reporting from Shane Simmons and Jacob Nice for their story on bass fishing at Mercer County High School (watch it by clicking here).

WQAD News 8 is part of a region comprised of radio and television stations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

The Edward R. Murrow Awards for outstanding achievement in electronic journalism were established in 1971.
