Bicyclist hit by car in Dixon, Illinois has died

Dixon Police say the bicyclist hit by a car on Wednesday, April 13 has died of his innuries.

DIXON, Illinois — Dixon Police say the bicyclist hit by a car on Wednesday, April 13 has died of his injuries.

John Appenheimer, 54, was riding his bicycle around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Galena Avenue and West Everett Street. Driver Dennis Miller, 43, said he did not see Appenheimer when he was beginning to turn right on Galena Avenue.

Both men are from Dixon, Illinois.

Miller had been driving a ComEd vehicle at the time.

Officers were unable to talk to Appenheimer. He was taken to KSB Hospital, then flown to Rockford Memorial. Appenheimer died just a little after 3 p.m. Thursday, April 14. His family has made the decision to donate his organs.

"We are currently cooperating with local authorities in their investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with all individuals impacted by this tragic incident," said Elizabeth Keating with ComEd.

This accident is still under investigation and no citations or charges have been filed at this time.
