Merry old England is known for castles, kings, and Shakespeare.

It's not exactly a mecca for food.

But the English do have one great tasting dish that's a staple of the British diet.

"You know the English have their take on Shepherd's pie," says Chef Brad Scott, director of Scott Community College's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management program in Bettendorf.

"Well I've got a little different take on that."

1.  Dice ham (about 2 oz per person) into small pieces
2.  Add cooking spray to a casserole dish
3.  Add ham to casserole dish
4.  Add a can of cream corn to a bowl
5.  Add 1 tsp flour
6.  Add 1 tsp of powdered ranch dressing
7.  Add 1 tsp of dry mustard
8.  Whisk it together
9.  Pour into casserole dish, covering the ham
10.  Cut the corner of a plastic sandwich bag
11.  Place a cake decorating star tip into the bag
12.  Spoon instant mashed potatoes into bag (add garlic, sour cream to taste)
13.  Pipe the mashed potatoes over the cream corn
14.  Top with shredded cheese
15.  Place in a 350-degree oven for 20-minutes

"Nice and golden brown," says Chef Scott.

"My take on a Shepherd's Pie.  Enjoy."
