A 17-year-old girl was injured when she collided with a trailer being pulled by a truck heading in the opposite direction in McDonough County.

The crash happened on Illinois Route 41, about a half mile south of County Road 1300 N around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police.  She was heading southbound in a Pontiac when she went into the northbound lane and hit a trailer being pulled by a GMC truck.

The truck and trailer went into a ditch and stopped on the shoulder, police said.  The Pontiac reportedly went down into the ditch embankment, rolled twice, and struck a utility pole; her car came to rest in an upright position.

Police said the teen “sustained incapacitating injuries as a result and had to be extricated from her vehicle.”  She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver of the truck was not hurt, according to police.

The teen driver was cited for improper lane usage, police said.  No word on her condition as of Tuesday.
