Today we threw the rule book out the window. Ken Croken from the Genesis Healthy Heart Institute challenged Chef Toby Christiansen from the Woodfire Grill and our own Eric Sorensen to a head-to-head, err.. oven-to-oven cookoff.

The dish this morning: Lasagna.

There was one catch though. One of the lasagnas was made "heart healthy." Ken made his ahead of time using only healthy ingredients. The other two used their family's best recipes. WQAD News 8 anchors Jonathan Ketz and Julie Sisk were the taste-testers. While Ken's was a solid entry (and was the first to be finished by our production crew), the big winner was Eric.

Here's his winning recipe. (And keep in mind, it isn't necessarily heart healthy.)

Ingredients:
Two Boxes of Lasagna Noodles
2 8 oz. Blocks of Mozzarella Shredded
1 cup Finely Shredded Parmesan Cheese
Sauce
1 lb. Ground Beef
1 lb. Ground Hot Italian Sausage
2 14.5 oz. Cans of Italian Diced Tomatoes
1 28 oz. Can of Crushed Tomatoes
2 tbs. Tomato Paste
1/2 Large White Onion Diced
4 Cloves of Garlic Minced
2 tsp. Dried Basil
2 tsp. Dried Oregano
1 tbs. Fresh Parsley
1/4 cup Red Wine (Merlot)
Salt and Pepper to taste
