DEKALB, Illinois — I-39 in Illinois was temporarily closed April 8 as Illinois State Police and DeKalb City Police chased down an armed carjacker.
Malik Henry, 19, of DeKalb shot himself and was pronounced dead at the scene when he was surrounded by authorities.
According to the Illinois State Police, Henry stole a car and was armed while being chased westbound on Illinois Route 38. Authorities used an intervention device and Henry’s car left the road and stopped in a nearby field near I-39.
I-39 is now open. The incident remains under investigation.
