MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) — City crews in Muscatine are spending days remounting dozens of headstones that were toppled at a cemetery.
The Muscatine Journal reports workers this week are fixing up to 30 headstones that were pushed off their pedestals at Greenwood Cemetery last weekend.
Parks and Recreation Director Richard Klimes says workers were also putting granite sealer at the base of the stones to help prevent someone from pushing them over again. Klimes says it doesn’t appear the headstones were damaged.
Muscatine police are investigating the vandalism. Anyone with information about the vandalism is encouraged to call the Muscatine Police Department at 563-263-9922.
