WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — Two men working at a residential facility for troubled children in northern Illinois have been charged in the asphyxiation death of a 16-year-old Chicago boy who lived there.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force announced the charges Saturday.

James E. Davis, 37, of Round Lake was charged with involuntary manslaughter and obstruction of justice. Justin J. Serak of Kenosha, 27, of Wisconsin, was charged with obstruction of justice.

Attorneys for both men didn’t respond to voicemails seeking comment.

Shaquan Allen was pronounced dead at a hospital Wednesday. An autopsy found he died of asphyxiation.

The incident occurred at the Allendale Association in Lake Villa.

Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli says the two employees struggled with the boy while responding to a “behavioral issue” and Davis put him in a chokehold.
