CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago police spokesman says investigators have no reason to question the authenticity of a social media posting that seems to show the taker of a selfie video being struck by gunfire.
Police found the video during an online search following a shooting Thursday on the city’s South Side. It shows a man chatting into a camera on a street when what appear to be shots ring out. An apparent gunman can be seen stepping over the cameras lens, extending his arms as he fires more than a dozen times.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the video doesn’t seem to be a hoax.
The 31-year-old shooting victim was in critical condition in a Chicago hospital. Investigators were exploring whether the man was targeted in retaliation for previous violence.
