DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Hundreds of Iowa law enforcement authorities saluted a flag-draped coffin and paid their last respects to one of two Des Moines police officers killed in a head-on crash.

Susan Farrell's funeral Wednesday at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines drew more than 3,000 family members, friends and co-workers, the Des Moines Register reports.

Following the funeral service roughly 2,000 emergency vehicles from across the country followed the hearse carrying Farrell's body to a Des Moines cemetery as onlookers stood holding American flags and saluting officials.

Farrell and Carlos Puente-Morales were killed early Saturday when their police cruiser was struck by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 80 west of Des Moines. A prisoner being transported by the officers and the other driver were also killed.
