Flags in Iowa have been ordered to fly at half-staff to honor the two Des Moines officers who were killed in a head-on collision.

Officers Susan Farrell and Carlos Puente-Morales were heading eastbound on Interstate 80 when they were struck by a Ford Taurus that was traveling the wrong direction.

In their honor, Governor Terry Branstad ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 and again from sunrise to sunset on Friday, April 1.

All U.S. and state flags under control of the state are included in the directive.  Businesses, schools, counties, individuals, and anyone else who might fly a flag is also encouraged to participate as a sign of respect.
