John Deere Road construction starts April 4

MOLINE, Illinois — Starting  April 4, drivers on John Deere Road will have to deal with a three year construction project that will expand this major roadway to six lanes.

The construction will start on I-74 to east of 70th street.

The Illinois Department of Transportation PI Engineer, John Wegmeyer says this change is necessary to keep up with the large amount of traffic coming through the area.

"The existing roadways there's been a lot of development along there. There's also a whole lot of traffic there with the intersections. There's just a need to have additional capacity to handle the number of vehicles that travel that road every day," he says.

The project is expected to be completed in 2018.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Thursday, March 31, at the City of Moline Library. Residents and businesses owners will have a chance to meet IDOT staff that will be working on the project.
