SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Officials in a northwest Iowa county appear poised to change an ordinance that would allow more semi-truck terminals in rural areas.

The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors is considering a plan that would apply to small, home-occupied businesses, the Sioux City Journal reports.

The supervisors will vote on the proposal this week.

Woodbury County Planning and Zoning Director John Pylelo says the current ordinance prohibits trucks in rural home-occupied businesses from being parked outdoors so they can be seen by passing motorists.

“Conceivably, a resident could wake up one morning and see tractor-trailer rigs moving in next door. That resident and other neighbors can say goodbye to their peaceful rural lifestyle and hello to reduced property values,” said Pat Kreisler, of rural Sergeant Bluff.
