DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of an Iowa jail inmate.
The Polk County sheriff’s office says in a statement 38-year-old Lamont Walls of Des Moines was found unconscious in his cell shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday. Walls was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Walls was arrested by Des Moines police on Wednesday on charges of probation violation, interference with official acts and preventing apprehension.
The Polk County sheriff’s office is conducting the investigation, and the state jail inspector was also notified. The sheriff’s office released no other details.
