NORWALK, Iowa -- A stray kangaroo was captured by police in Iowa and returned to its owner after a short chase Tuesday night, according to WHO.

The kangaroo was spotted hopping outside City Hall in Norwalk, Iowa. After its capture, the kangaroo was turned over to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

"Sometimes we chase cats. Sometimes we chase cows, horses and even goats. But until last night, we have never chased a Kangaroo," read the Norwalk Police Department's Facebook page.

The department updated the community on March 23 saying that the kangaroo's owners had been training the animal to keep as a pet out in the country, but the location fell through. The animal was kept in Norwalk while it was listed for sale on Craigslist.

The kangaroo has since sold and been sent to live in Nebraska.
