A vehicle was on fire on Interstate 80 early Friday morning, March 25, 2016.
A volunteer firefighter with the Cordova Fire Department caught video of the fire as he responded to the scene. According to the responder, the fire was out within 20 minutes.
The vehicle was reportedly located on the I-80 off ramp toward Illinois Route 84 near Rapids City. Initial reports indicated that the vehicle was in the eastbound lane of the roadway near the I-80 bridge. A spokesperson from the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Port Byron and Hillsdale fire departments responded to the scene.
"Always thank your local volunteer firefighters as they run in when others run out," the Cordova responder said in a Facebook post. He also boosted Rock Island County officers "for taking charge of the traffic on scene.
No word on whether anybody was injured or what caused the fire.
