BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — A Burlington man accused of using a machete and a skateboard to attack his girlfriend has been charged with kidnapping.
Prosecutors say 20-year-old Dakota Poland confined or moved the girl without her consent, intending to harm her with a dangerous weapon. The Hawk Eye reports that Poland also has been charged with willful injury and domestic abuse.
His attorney, James Beres, said Friday that he couldn’t immediately comment.
Prosecutors say Poland attacked the 16-year-old girl March 10 when she was moving out of his parents’ home, where she often stayed. Court records say he wouldn’t let her leave and punched and kicked her and used the machete, skateboard and a glass ashtray to inflict more injuries.
Poland’s mother intervened and his father took the girl to a hospital.
