IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An off-duty Iowa trooper repeatedly tried to get out of an arrest for operating while intoxicated by refusing to cooperate, then berated the arresting officer for making the "community weaker."

Audio and video from the arresting officer's body camera and car released Monday show that Patrick Steinbach acted belligerently during his Dec. 20 arrest.

The case has prompted his resignation from the Iowa State Patrol and the removal of a booking officer who gave him special treatment at the Iowa County jail.

The Associated Press reported Steinbach's arrest and resignation earlier this month. But the recordings shed additional light on the former Iowa State football player's actions and how Williamsburg officers handled the arrest of a fellow officer they knew. They were released to AP under the open records law.
