EAST MOLINE, Illinois — A week after a devastating tornado decimated homes and wiped out trees, a crew working on a cell phone tower found a shocking piece of debris 180 feet up.
A piece of vinyl siding from a home got tangled in a communications antenna. A crew was working on a radio connected to the tower that had been damaged when the discovery was made. The vinyl siding was not on the radio being fixed at the time.
The radio being fixed was not prohibiting communication in the area. The crew on site said that if communication was down because of a storm they would respond within hours. Cell towers have multiple radios to handle traffic so if one goes down, the others can handle the traffic.
