A local woman, who police say faked cancer and took about $133,000 from a Good Samaritan who tried to help her, has pleaded not guilty.
"That's what the allegations are, that she bilked the victim out of $133,000," said Rock Island County States Attorney John McGehee.
Felica Howard met the man at a Moline church. Howard had received help from the church in the past, but when that financial aid ran out, the 78-year-old alleged victim says he dug into his savings to help her battle the disease.
"She supposedly made trips to Mayo, to Chicago, to St. Louis, to Iowa City for procedures," the victim told WQAD.
McGehee says Howard said she needed the money for travel and for her children.
She's charged with felony theft and a trial date was set for May.
