Consider yourself warned – Davenport authorities say the first flood of the season is likely by Easter this year.

South Concord at River Drive was closed Thursday morning, March 24, 2016, just a few days after high water signs were placed in the area.

The Mississippi River was at 11.46 feet Sunday afternoon, March 20, according to a statement from the city.   By Thursday, flood maps showed that the river was at 12.78 feet and was expected to reach 13 feet by Friday, March 25.

The river was also expected to rise to its 15-foot flood stage by Sunday, March 27, the statement said.

“As river levels rise, additional measures will be taken, including closing gates to prevent the Mississippi from backing into the stormwater system in low-lying areas along Blackhawk Creek and setting pumps in those areas,” the statement said. “There are no other significant flood control measures that will take place unless flood leveled are set to crews at or above 16 feet.”
