CALUMET CITY, Ill. (AP) — A Calumet City man has been charged with murder after his 1-year-old stepson died from burns allegedly caused by scalding hot bathwater.
Calumet City Police Chief Tom DiFiori tells WMAQ-TV in Chicago that 30-year-old Gregory Miles was charged with first-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and endangering the life of a child.
Police responded about 12:30 a.m. Thursday to a report of an unresponsive infant. Officers found 1-year-old Noah Rudder lying on the living room floor and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
The Lake County coroner’s office declared the boy dead at a Hammond, Indiana hospital at 1:55 a.m. He suffered burns to his body but no cause of death was given pending further review. DiFiori says the boy was allegedly burned by scalding water.
As of Sunday, March 20, Miles is in the Cook County Jail on a $1 million bond.
