One person was killed and two more were injured when two cars collided in a Scott County, Iowa intersection.

The collision happened in the intersection of Utica Ridge Road and 210th Street just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, according to a statement from the Scott County Sheriff's Department.  Thirty-four-year-old Lucas Johnson of rural Scott County was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis headed northbound on Utica Ridge Road when he was struck by a Pontiac Grand Prix headed eastbound on 210th Street.

Police say the Grand Prix driver "failed to obey the posted stop sign at the intersection."

The two cars collided and ended up in a ditch in the northeast corner of the intersection, according to the statement.  The Grand Marquis hit a utility pole.

Johnson, the driver of the Grand Marquis, was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.  Both the driver and the passenger of the Grand Prix, two 18-year-olds from Davenport, were taken to the hospital; the driver was in non-life-threatening condition and the passenger was in serious condition.

Police withheld names until they could notify families.
