GRISWOLD, Iowa (AP) — A western Iowa high school principal has been accused of drunken driving.

Online court records say 41-year-old Thomas Dunphy is charged with operating under the influence, second offense, and carrying weapons while intoxicated. He also was cited for speeding. Creston police say Dunphy had a loaded gun with him when he was pulled over early Sunday morning.

Dunphy is the principal for Griswold’s high school and middle school. School board President Scott Hansen says Dunphy has been placed on leave.

A phone listed for Dunphy in Griswold rang unanswered Wednesday. Court records don’t list the name of an attorney who could comment for Dunphy. The records say Dunphy pleaded guilty to drunken driving in November 2010 and was sentenced to four days in jail and fined $1,250.
