DAVENPORT, Iowa -- An Iowa lawyer who wants to run for state's attorney in Illinois has lost his appeal to be on the ballot.

Jack Schwartz lives in Davenport but practices in both Iowa and Illinois. His petitions were rejected by the local electoral board, and now his appeal has been denied.

Schwartz says he still hopes to be on the November ballot, not as a Democrat, but as an Independent.

"It's discontent with the Democratic hierarchy party, I think it's a very good chance that somebody Independent can win. I think the voters in this county have had enough and are ready to vote out the power structure and vote in somebody new," said Schwartz.

The Appellate Court ruled Schwartz's nominating petitions were invalid, which is why he's trying this path instead.
