ROCK ISLAND, Illinois -- A plea deal may be in the works in a three year old deadly drunk driving case in Rock Island County.
A hearing for Mitch Gayer was continued today as lawyers try to negotiate a plea deal in the case. Gayer was the driver in an accident that killed two of his friends back in 2013.
Last year, he plead guilty and was sentenced to 18 years, but he hired a new attorney who got him a new trial.
Today, states attorney John McGehee said both sides are now exploring a plea deal with Gayer.
