Detective hit by car driven by woman running from police in Moline

What started as a theft investigation at SouthPark Mall in Moline turned into a foot chase that led to an officer being hit by a car and thrown onto the hood.

MOLINE, IL -- What started as a theft investigation at SouthPark Mall in Moline turned into a foot chase that led to an officer being hit by a car and thrown onto the hood.

During their investigation on Thursday, March 10, 2016, two theft suspects outside the mall fled from officers after they were asked to stop, according to a statement from Detective Scott Williams with the Moline Police Department.  One of the suspects, 43-year-old Gregory David King, was captured, but the woman he was with, 40-year-old Roxanne Rosselle Renita Clay, got to her car and locked the doors.

Police said Clay hit an officer with her car, causing him to land on top of the hood.  Attempting to get him off, Clay repeatedly lurched the car forward until he came off of the hood.  Detective Williams said the detective was not injured.

Clay then fled the mall parking lot and drove out onto 16th Street where she was met by multiple Moline Police squad cars, Detective Williams' statement said.  She drove back into the mall parking lot, where she was pulled over.

Police searched the car, finding 24 grams of what officers believed to be crack cocaine, 17 pills that are likely ecstasy, a loaded .380 semi-automatic handgun, and items police suspect were stolen from the mall, the statement said.

King and Clay faced the following charges by the Rock Island County State's Attorney's Office:

King was charged with armed violence, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm. He was held on $500,000 cash bond. Clay was charged with armed violence, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm, and aggravated battery to a police officer. She was held on $500,000 bond.
