A Moline woman is helping find homes for foster dogs throughout the Quad City area.

Diane Viaene is a member of the K-9 Kindness Rescue program in the Quad Cities. The group takes care of foster dogs and eventually tries to find homes for them.

"We're foster based," Viaene said. "We don't have a shelter. We have about 30 dogs in different foster homes in the Quad Cities."

Since 2013, Viaene has helped find homes for about 80 dogs in the area. On Friday, March 4, 2016, her friend Julie Beck nominated her for a Pay It Forward Award, sponsored by WQAD News 8 and Ascentra Credit Union.

Dogs have been a huge part of Viaene's life because they've helped her through a difficult time. In June of 2014, Viaene was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and she says the dogs helped her get through each and every day. Now, she's cancer free.

"To not focus on yourself and to focus on the dogs and their issues instead of your own, there's a lot to be said for that," Viaene said. "I'm also a nurse, and I've seen too many people focus on their own problems and not be able to move past that."
