Morrison, IL teen died in car wreck, another airlifted to hospital

A 17-year-old Morrison teen has died after a single car wreck. Two other passengers were injured.

MORRISON, Illinois — A 17-year-old Morrison teen has died after a single car wreck.

Payton J. Cook was traveling southbound on Round Grove Road around 11:42 p.m. Saturday, March 5, when he lost control and skidded sideways into the east ditch, according to the White County Sheriff's Office. The vehicle went airborne, struck a utility pole and rolled, eventually coming to a stop on its side in a field.

Cook was pronounced dead on the scene.

Two passengers were also in the vehicle. Brooklyn Gallentine, 18, also of Morrison, was treated and released at CGH Medica Center. An unidentified 16-year-old boy was extricated from the car during the accident and has been airlifted to OSF St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford, Illinois.

Whiteside County was assisted by the Illinois State Police, Morrison Fire and Ambulance and CGH Ambulance.

The car crash remains under investigation.
