February 2016 in Illinois was unusually warm, 11th wettest winter on record

The average temperature for the month was 33.2 degrees, which is 2.3 degrees higher than normal, according to a statement from the Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS) with the University of Illinois.

In fact, when you combine December, January, and February’s temperatures, the 2015-2016 winter season makes for the 7th warmest on record in the state, ISWS reported.  Also during that time, Illinois saw about two more inches of precipitation than normal, making for the 11th wettest winter on record.

Looking at February by itself, precipitation was only slightly below average, the report said.
