It's the comments from another Republican today that could impact Trump's campaign. Mitt Romney slammed Trump, asking republicans to nominate anyone but him.

Mitt Romney did something unprecedented; he called out his party's leading presidential candidate in front of an audience at the University of Utah.

"The only serious policy proposals that deal with national challenges come from Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and John Kasich, one of these men should be our nominee," said Romney.

It's that kind of dialogue that Rock Island Republican Chairman Bill Bloom says is giving the party a bad image.

"He`s sort of responded to Trump with the same sort of language that Trump had used with other candidates," said Bloom.

Bloom says the variety of personalities running for the Republican nomination has brought more voters than before, but the candidates are forgetting what's important.

"I think the name calling and that sort of thing basically gets in the way actually addressing the needs of the country," said Bloom.

It didn't stop at tonight's debate, nor is it expected to die down before Illinois voters head to the polls March 15th.

"Illinois has a huge role this year. Illinois is literally the last state that will proportionally allocate delegates out of its primary. After Illinois every other state is a winner take all primary," said Bloom.

One of the first questions asked to Trump during tonight's debate was about Romney.

Trump responded by saying, "He was a failed candidate, he should have beaten President Obama easy. He failed miserably and it was an embarrassment to everybody including the Republican Party."
