Some blue cheese products from Hy-Vee have been recalled.

Due to a possible Listeria contamination, Maytag Raw Milk Blue Cheese products have been recalled from all Hy-Vees, according to a statement from Hy-Vee.  The products were sold at all Hy-Vee stores, including in Iowa and Illinois, between November 20, 2015 and March 2, 2016.

The cheese products were sold in whole wheels and cuts, as well as in foil or clear plastic wrap labeled with their various weights.  Blue cheese crumbles were also sold in plastic containers.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Hy-Vee is recalling all sizes and forms (wheels, wedges, and crumbles) of Maytag Blue Cheese products from all of its stores,” said the store’s statement.

The products were labeled as “Maytag Blue Raw Milk,” “Maytag Blue,” or “Maytag Iowa Blue Cheese.” The PLU numbers started with 854089001 and the “use by” dates were between January 20, 2016 and May 3, 2016.

Traces of Listeria monocytogens were discovered during a test by the State of Iowa.  No illnesses have been reported, but Maytag Dairy Farms has stopped making and distributing the cheese while they work with the FDA to fix the problem.

If you bought any of these products, you should throw it away or bring it back to Hy-Vee for a refund.
