It took almost an hour for firefighters to put out a fire that damaged a Burlington, Iowa home.

Five people were home when the two-story, wood-frame house caught fire around 8 p.m. Monday, February 29, 2016, according to Burlington Fire Marshal Mark Crooks.  Firefighters arrived to find a wood deck fully engulfed in flames and spreading to the back of the house in the 1100 block of Smith Street.

The fire was completely out right around 9 p.m., Crooks said.  Flames damaged the deck, the back of the house, and a section of the attic as well.

Nobody was hurt, but there was about $20,000 worth of damage done to the house and about $10,000 worth of damage to the contents.

Crews were on scene until almost 11:30 p.m.  and it took about 20 firefighters to put out the blaze, Crooks said.  The cause was not yet determined, but investigators confirmed that the fire was not considered suspicious.
