This South Dakota teen wanted to make sure his sister got to experience as much out of life as possible, so he decided to include her in a traditionally high school event.

When AJ Spader’s Valentine’s Day Formal rolled around, he decided to ask his younger sister Rebekah, who had been diagnosed with pre-leukemia, according to a report by KSFY.

“I wanted to ask my sister because she’s not going to be able to experience high school, Spader said, according to the report. “So I just thought why not ask her to a formal.”

And that he did. Rebekah got to experience the full shebang: getting dolled up and enjoying dinner with all of her brother’s classmates.

Spader said he wants to spend as much time with her as possible.

“Her laugh is pretty great,” he said, reported KSFY. “It’s really fun to just be around her and make memories…”

Rebekah got her diagnoses several years ago, according to the report.  Her family decided to discontinue treatment when a bone marrow transplant failed. Their wish is for her to live life to the fullest.

KSFY reported that Rebekah wasn’t feeling up to going to the dance, but her brother said she still had plenty of fun with him and his classmates earlier in the evening.
