Rock Island Township will reopen Emergency Program with additional funds

Rock Island Township will reopen its Emergency Program with an additional $4,000 in funds 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2016.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — Rock Island Township will reopen its Emergency Program with an additional $4,000 in funds 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2016. Application packets will be available Monday morning and will be processed on a first come, first served basis until the additional $4,000 in funds is spent.

To qualify for the program, residents must live in Rock Island Township, are not eligible for the General Assistance Program, and maintain a steady income. If a Township resident has had an emergency situation that took away money usually spent on rent, mortgage or utilities, the resident may be eligible for up to $400 in assistance.

However, there must be proof that the applicant can pay the difference.

Applicants will be required to provide information about income, expenses, routine bills, details about the emergency, and proof that funds will be available to cover housing and other expenses for the upcoming month.

The program launched in September 2015 and budgeted $18,000, which was spent by February 2016. While the program was running, the township helped 49 families with an average of $366.67 apiece; more than half of the money helped pay residents’ rent.

The program will close when the additional $4,000 is spent, but will reopen again in April when the new fiscal year begins.
