The Special Olympics State Basketball Competition is less than a month away, and the players from Moline High School are getting ready to bring home the gold medal.

This is the second year in a row the team will compete at the State competition but for most players this is their first year on the team.  The team won a practice game against Canton, Illinois Saturday at Moline High School, 61-30.

"They are very nervous so this was really good motivation for them, they really shined...it was amazing," said Jerilyn Hocker, the team's head coach.

Moline High School is the only school in the Illinois Quad Cities with a Special Olympics Basketball Team, which means the team has to travel extensively to play other schools.  That's why parents and faculty members of Moline High School organized a bake sale to raise the extra money to make sure the team can travel to State comfortably.

The team raised about $300 by the end of the game.

The Special Olympics State Competition will be on March 11 and 12 at Illinois State University in Bloomington.
