At least four lucky families from East Moline were selected lottery-style to get financial assistance for major qualifying home repairs.
“The winners get to have up to $30,000 to improve their home and it is for things that are critical, things that would not be a code violation and needs to be repaired such as a roof or electrical system. Things that determine whether the house is habitable,” says East Moline Mayor John Thodos.
This is a part of East Moline’s Single-Family Owner Occupied Rehabilitation program, which received more than $100 thousand from the Illinois Attorney General National Foreclosure Settlement Funds.
The program plans to help a minimum of four families, but hopes to help as many as they can with the money they were given.
There were a total of eight names drawn in Wednesday’s lottery.
