Some of the newest cars, trucks and SUVs are on display this week at the River Center. The Iowa/Illinois Regional Auto Show opens to the public tomorrow, but tonight it was about giving back.

It's the kickoff event for the auto show 11 high school students are awarded scholarships every year. This year among them was Bettendorf High School senior Bailey Pribyl.

“I love cars, everyday its part of my life," said Pribyl.

Pribyl plans on going to school mechanical engineering and currently works at Kimberly BMW.

He can tell you all the latest features on the new line and how they work. Some say keeping up with the time is key for this industry.

“I think what the technician has to know to fix them, is getting more complicated. I mean we have customers that come in everyday that they have trouble syncing up their phone for their Bluetooth," said Tom Pospisill, executive manager at Eriksen Chevrolet-Buick.

Pribyl says he knows it will be important to know how to do it all when he enters the career field, "A lot of it is electrical and a lot of it's with computers. It's not quite like it used to be and it's obviously something changing and developing all the time.”

A new line of vehicles come with a new generation behind it.

"I think it's more important than ever with the scholarships we give away, that we’re cultivating that culture that people are embracing the technology. They're learning the technology because they’re going to be the ones fixing that technology when it doesn’t work," said Pospisill.

$38,000 was given out in scholarships tonight. The auto show starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday.
