MOLINE, Illinois — The Moline Special Olympics basketball team will advance to compete in the State Basketball Competition. The team won a gold medal and trophy at the Jan. 17 District Tournament, which qualified the team to compete at the state level March 11-12 at the Illinois State University in Bloomington, Illinois.

The team is made up of three freshman, three juniors and three seniors from Moline High School. Two of the students are returning players from last season. This is the second year in a row the team will compete at the state level.

A special home game will be played 10 a.m., Feb. 20, at the Moline High School East Gym. A bake sale and concessions will be available for purchase. The money raised will go toward the team’s travel costs to the state competition.
