In every football game there is a halftime, usually there’s a halftime show, and in the Super Bowl there’s a halftime performance, and you never know quite what to expect.

Looking back, the Super Bowl halftime shows past hosted marching bands. Back in 1967 the University of Arizona’s marching band was the first Super Bowl halftime performance.  In 1972 Ella Fitzgerald hit the stage with Carol Channing, Al Hirt & the U.S. Marine Corps Drill Team.

Slowly the marching bands were phased out and more well-known entertainers have taken their place, such as Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, ‘N Sync, Britney Spears, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Prince,  Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band and many more.

Of course there are those halftime shows that nobody forgets: The notorious “wardrobe malfunction” during Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson’s 2004 performance, in 2013 during Beyonce’s performance when the lights went out in half the stadium, or more recently, Katy Perry’s performance in 2015 when #leftshark became a trending phrase.

Nielsen ratings showed that that 2015 performance became the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show of all time with 118.5 million viewers, according to Billboard.

During Super Bowl 50, Coldplay, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars were set to perform.
